OEM Fabricators, Inc an ISO certified company and manufacturer of the year award winner, is a full service custom job shop. We are currently seeking a Weld Engineer for our  at our Woodville, WI facility on 1st shift, Monday-Thursday 7:00 am – 4:30 pm, Friday 7:00 am – 11 am.

Position Summary

Establish and maintain welding/fabricating processes, methods, and standards  which are consistent with national and international welding standards/codes/norms. These are required to assure zero weld deficiencies of all products including compliance with welding standards and/or customer contract specifications.  Authority includes the determination of fabrication acceptability/rejection, any resulting rework requirements, and both scope and location of rework.

Requirements

The following listed articles are required for the initial acceptance of a Weld Engineer (or as deemed necessary by the hiring authority).

  • A four year degree in Weld Engineering or an equivalent is required
  • Three-five years as a weld engineer or related experience
  • Preferred certifications
    • AWS-CWI
    • ASNT NDT Level II or III
  • Experience in
    • AWS D 1.1, D1.2, D1.3, D1.6, D14.3, D15.1
    • ASME sec IX
    • MIL-STD-248
    • EN 287
    • ASNT NDT VT, MT, PT, UT

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain welding processes, procedures, and qualifications that are in compliance with national and international welding standards/codes/norms.
  • Provide direct assistance to Plant Management, as required, to enable them to meet their weld quality standards and objectives.
  • Provide training and maintain a welder qualification program which assures appropriate certification and provides skill enhancement opportunities for employees, including training in visual inspection and NDT processes and applications.
  • Prepare root cause analysis of weld quality deficiencies and implement required corrective/preventative actions to eliminate such deficiencies.
  • Perform periodic and random audits of weld requirements and manufacturing compliance. Audits will encompass both internal standards and customer contract specifications.
  • Participate in special projects for Manufacturing such as development of special equipment, tooling, fixtures which will increase efficiency and productivity.
  • Lead in determining and selecting required weld capital expenditures for specific contracts that have special and/or unusual requirements.
  • Assist the Manufacturing Engineering, Customer Service Team, and Quality Manager with special projects.
  • Manage welding engineering technician’s activities to maintain welding & fabrication processes and methods & standards at the individual facilities.
  • Assist Engineering and Estimating with new product proposals.
  • Acts as Technical Lead and Weld Expert supporting the other OEM facilities in developing and implementing best practices in manufacturing operations
  • Assist OEM facilities in the selection and installation of new capital equipment base around the support of manufacturing with an emphasis in welding.
  • Present welding solutions to the management staff for concept consideration and approval
  • Evaluate and build upon weld purchasing requests from the facilities and then act as the technical liaison and advisor while interfacing with the purchasing department for procurement.
  • Develop, document, and implement external and internal standards as applicable in welding to meet and enhance OEM’s welding program and systems.
